Hammarskjöld - Fight for Peace

This gripping biography of Swedish politician and statesman Dag Hammarskjöld was nominated for eight Swedish Guldbagge Film Awards. Cold War tensions are at their height. For years, the indomitable politician had been regarded as a respected diplomat who, through diplomacy, had managed to prevent several conflicts by mending fractured relations between the East and West. This gripping historical drama offers a portrait of the man John F. Kennedy believed was the greatest political leader of the last century, and he is portrayed brilliantly by Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt.
This gripping biography of Swedish politician and statesman Dag Hammarskjöld was nominated for eight Swedish Guldbagge Film Awards. Director Per Fly, who has already made several biopics and thrillers, once again shows masterful work with suspense and blending fact and fiction. In 1961, the Cold War was brewing and the world was in political and social turmoil. The indomitable politician had been a respected diplomat for several years, having managed to prevent several conflicts by mending fractured relations between the East and West through diplomacy. The film begins when, as then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hammarskjöld sets himself his most challenging goal yet - to bring peace to decolonising African countries. At the same time, however, he begins to realise the enormous workload for which he is losing his personal life. Inevitably, his life's mission begins to clash with his personal well-being. The turning point is an operation in the Republic of the Congo where UN personnel are murdered. This gripping historical drama offers a portrait of the man John F. Kennedy believed was the greatest political leader of the last century. Hammarskjöld is also portrayed brilliantly by Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt.
